One of the joys of life on the road, has been the ability to do everything together as a family. Due to my husbands health and ongoing recovery from chemotherapy, we haven’t done a whole lot of physical work… but this time we stretched ourselves a little. We were offered some work in the Capella area by friends of ours who own property there.
Capella is a little town on the Central Highlands a few hours west of Rockhampton. We ended up staying for four weeks in the friendly little Capella Van Park. Our hosts Jody and Dave were very hospitable and we really enjoyed our stay there. The amenities were always clean and tidy, the staff friendly and helpful and the nightly happy hour was a relaxed family friendly environment.
During the days we would alternate school work with cleaning, painting, mowing and whatever else needed doing on the property. Of course my husband and older boys did the bulk of the work… but the little ones and I would go up for an hour or so at a time and ‘lend a hand’.
It was a great experience for the children to see a job that needed doing, be involved in the discussions and planning of what and when it would be done, then work diligently until it was completed. Everyone felt involved.
Obviously they contributed as they were capable but we all worked together as a family to achieve the goal. That’s a great life lesson right there. And great memories too.
