Last week we made a spontaneous trip to the Sunny Coast for our big boys 17th birthday… a trip that turned into a mad dash. We picked him up from work on the Friday and enjoyed a special family dinner with grandparents. We were up early to have breaky at the beach with some dear friends the next morning and were just about to have the birthday cake when we heard about the impending lockdown.
There were many tears as we attempted to explain to the smaller children why we couldn’t stay as planned with Nee Nee and Papaw. We just couldn’t risk the lockdown being extended (as it turned out to be), with our caravan left behind in central Qld. While disappointed that we got less than 24 hours with him, I’m grateful I at least got plenty of hugs in during that time. So good when we are all together.
Blessedly we also had the chance for several cuppas and catchups with close friends who I have missed dearly. It refilled my cup. Sadly many planned visits didn’t eventuate with our plans being cut short. I guess it will make the return trip all the sweeter. For now it is back to the open road…
